We have achieved the Qualmark Enviro Bronze standard and our long term aim is to make Beluga as sustainable and footprint-free as possible.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: We have seriously reduced the amount of waste we generate here at Beluga. We have a recycling programme which includes all plastics, tin cans, cardboard, paper and glass.
Keep it Local: Whenever possible and practical we use local products, both in order to support our local community and to cut down on the travel distances and costs. We source the majority of our food locally, only use locally made all-natural bathroom products and of course sell locally made NZ wines and beers.
Energy Efficiency: Beluga is fully insulated and double glazed which cuts down on unnecessary electricity consumption. We are in the process of replacing blown bulbs with energy efficient ones and our outdoor and garden lights are either on sensors or timers to ensure that they do not remain on unnecessarily during daylight hours.
The Great Outdoors: We are lucky at Beluga to have a wonderful mature garden which is giving back to the environment as well as providing enjoyment for our guests. We have a worm farm to recycle all of our food waste and some general waste. We have also invested in a water collection system to ensure that our garden can stay green and beautiful all year round without putting additional pressure on the local water supply.
Keep it Clean: At Beluga, we use the ENJO product range of cleaners which are almost entirely chemical free. This enables us to reduce chemicals in the air and those entering into our local sewage system. ENJO has ISO & HACCP accreditation & has been accepted onto the Sensitive Choice Programme by the Asthma & Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand for asthma & allergy sufferers.
